File Import

Please click here for a video describing how to import your bank statement.

Please note, using the bank import facility can potentially create duplicate transactions if you have Automated Transactions already set up in the system.

Introduction

Home Accountz allows you to import data from third party sources (such as on-line banks or legacy book keeping apps).

Home Accountz supports the following formats:

  • CSV (Comma Separated Values)
  • QIF (Quicken Interchange Format)
  • OFX (Open Financial Exchange)

Selecting the right Import Wizard

Home Accountz has a range of different import wizards depending on what you are trying to import.

You can access these wizards by going to the ‘File->Import’ menu option.

The import wizards available are:

Bank / Credit Card Statement

If you can download statements from your on-line bank or credit card provider you can import them into Home Accountz using this wizard.

This wizard only supports importing statements for your base currency. If you have a statement from a foreign bank or credit card please use the Foreign Currency Statement import wizard instead.

The import wizard is made up of the following steps:

  1. Choose the data file you wish to import
  2. Specify the account the statement is for Optional Step - might not be needed
  3. Label the columns of your import file Optional Step - might not be needed
  4. Specify date format in file Optional Step - might not be needed
  5. Define ‘From|To|Other Account’ values found in import file
  6. Specify default values
  7. Preview data to be imported

Foreign Currency Statement

If you have bank accounts held in a foreign currency and would like to import statements from them you can do so using this wizard.

The import wizard is made up of the following steps:

  1. Choose the data file you wish to import
  2. Specify the account the statement is for
  3. Label the columns of your import file Optional Step - might not be needed
  4. Specify date format in file Optional Step - might not be needed
  5. Define ‘From|To|Other Account’ values found in import file
  6. Specify default values
  7. Preview data to be imported

In step 2 you will be asked to specify the currency that the statement is in, then in step 6 you will need to specify the exchange rate between the currency you selected and your base currency in the ‘Currency Rate’ field. This exchange rate will then be used for converting all transactions to the base currency. You can if you wish alter the ‘Currency Rate’ value for individual transactions in the preview screen or after import if required.

Custom Transaction Data File

If you have some transaction data in CSV, QIF, or OFX format you can import it into Home Accountz using this wizard.

Import Existing Data

If you previously used a different accounting application (such as Quicken or MS Money) and want to import your accounting data from them this import wizard is the way to achieve this.

To be able to import this legacy data you first need to export it from your old account application. Here are some brief guides on how to do this:

Exporting From Microsoft Money Export your data from Microsoft Money using the QIF format. You will need to export each account into a separate QIF file. Save all these files to a single directory to make it easier to import them later.

Exporting From Intuit Quicken Export your data from using the QIF format. Select the ‘All Accounts’ option from Quicken ’s export menu.

Once you have exported your data you need to start the import wizard by selecting the ‘File->Import->Import Existing Data’ menu option.

The import wizard is made up of the following steps:

  1. Select which application you are importing from
  2. Export Instructions for the application selected
  3. Choose the data file you wish to import
  4. Map your old account structure to the new account structure
  5. Payees to import
